The Obligatory Festive Posting...

Can you actually believe its January again already?  2012 went extremely quickly, I guess my lack of posts kinda proves that....*whistles*

I've actually had an excellent time this festive season though, a nice quiet time mostly spent relaxing around the house with Mr B...we both had a cold (I've still got mine unfortunately!) so didn't really get around to getting out very far but we are both a little reclusive so that suits us just fine!

We had a fair bit of excitement when it came to our gifts though....I got the best present I could ask for of a new computer. There was much jumping around and clapping when I opened it!  I've always had hand me down machines from other people and never actually a nice new one of my own (not since I was 10 and I got an Amstrad for Christmas! - you know the ones with the tape deck in the keyboard)   Everything is all nice looking and shiny on the interwebs now and I've been loving turning up the graphics on all my games at last! Anyway..enough of my gloating, I should just say I was very spoiled.

After a huge amount of food and a couple of family visits, suddenly new year was upon us.  Again the reclusive side of me would be quite happy to sit at home in the warm, but we had been invited round out for some drinks and movie watching instead...Apparently we all got bought slogan t shirts for Christmas too...

As an odd choice of "festive" movies we watch Nude Nuns with Big Guns (I know it sounds like an adult movie but it wasn't completely (Gurn argued this vehemently as it was his choice!)...I wouldn't however recommend anyone adding to to their must watch list!) and after the bells had gone and we had hung out the window watching fireworks we watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  B and Lorne had never seen it so have obviously been begging for the education :s...They both seemed quite amused and weren't too put off by the rest of us singing along and joining in with the audience participation so that's something!

Another new year is here now though...lets hope that 2013 is a year of peace, love and happiness...but doesn't fly by quite as fast as 2012 did!

Geeks get desperate

I play quite a lot of games, lots of them are bought, but I'm also a bit of a sucker for flash games too. These come with lovely loading adverts however which I usually blissfully ignore...this one caught my eye however
So...you can now have a virtual dream girlfriend online? Isn't that really scoring low on the desperation level?? I'm sure I've seen similar advertised on many many other sites (although those would surely come under the heading of sex lines?) Looking at the girl in the picture it does seem to be aimed at young teens rather than adults - but I don't believe that would deter some adults (you know the ones who pretend to be young teens anyway).

This is definitely heading for Barbies desperation awards for 2010...

Barbie owns up

"Where the hell has she gone???" (Honestly I can hear the screaming of this phrase from here)

I'm here to answer that question...In my room playing games. That's it. Sorry. Nothing any more exciting than that.

"But Barbie, you have the attention span of a small insect, what on earth has managed to keep you away from drivelling posts full of nonsense?" (It must be the voices in my head)

Well, loaaaads of very, very addicting games - Left 4 Dead, Sims 3, and World of Goo for a start.

"Ooh I've heard of one of those" (Obviously the voices are as clever as I am)

Well If you're very patient and keep coming back I might manage to rustle up a post or two to tell you all about them, and why the hell I'm soooo addicted

The answer to cold gaming hands?

I live in Scotland so needless to say its bloody freezing in winter. I've found myself having a problem lately with my hands getting very cold while I'm playing games on my PC (I do quite a lot of this) so I have a great new product to help me...I'm thinking of launching them as a new line soon....Hobo Gaming Gloves!

Jack of all trades

I'm not academic.

At all.

I rarely even think about it, I'm a naturally clever person with an above average amount of "smarts". No one ever really questions my abilities so it never comes up and if it does its because they are usually surprised that I don't have a great education. If you really want to know how bad it is, I have 2 gcses above a C (and one of those is an arts subject). I've never really felt the need to get the bits of paper that back up my usual claims of genius :)

Tonight I did though, BMan and Gurn were talking about computer stuff, which is a subject that I'm usually very comfortable with, but on this occasion they were talking about the stuff kids learn in computing at school - a subject they both studied and my school barely even offered - (we learned about tractors and crop rotation instead) I'm completely self taught when it comes to anything technical and being as I am considered the IT expert in my workplace thats probably somewhat of an achievement but there was a lot of stuff that I had to admit not having the foggiest about which made me feel like a total novice.

It wasn't a nice feeling, and certainly not one I'm used to (although probably penance for knowing what a quince was earlier in the evening). Its something that I'm going to have to get used to, especially as I'm not going to go back to school anytime soon. I guess I'll just have to get my reading head on a study up on another random subject to make myself feel better ;)

Bad movies and a new PC

I got a "new" PC today, I've been given it because my flatmate got a new one and his old machine was still better than what I had before, so its new-to-me. I'm pretty chuffed, even though I will probably spend the next few weeks reinstalling stuff and finding out what I've lost!

I have the flat to myself again tonight, so instead of letting my boredom levels hit scissor areas again Gurn came on over to watch a couple of movies. I enjoy switching my brain off to watch the worst films I can lay my hands on, but tonights selection were truely the worst. I'm sure he will review them tomorrow!

Now i'm going to sit up the rest of the night playing with my new machine like the geek I secretly am...
