Barbie takes a holiday Part 2 - Perge

To some people Perge is a big pile of rocks. I think my neices thought so after the first half an hour in the scorching heat! I thought it was fantastic site however, I could have spent the whole day there. If you're interested in the historic info wiki is a helpful place! I took more photos in two hours here than the whole holiday!...heres a few....

Stonemasons mark?....or graffitti of a hammer?

Theres a lot like this, random piles of stone and columns

The Acropolis. The shadowy figure at the top is B-Man. I think my sister (posing at the bottom) didn't want to walk any further by this stage.

Site map - Its a big place!

Mosaic floors

No, I can't read it either...it possibly says "Claudius woz ere"
Columns...

This isn't me trying to be artistic...The texture of the rock in the bath house was really odd!

Tower gateway

More Columns...
Fantastic place - I'd like to go again to see how it develops (theyre still uncovering and reconstructing the whole place)

Barbie takes a holiday Part 1 - I Survived!

Oh its been quiet hasn't it? Probably because for the last few weeks I have been either working extra hours because of a planned holiday or that I've been on holiday! I'm back now though and have a few posts up my sleeve - once I've uploaded the photographs!

Anyway, my first overseas holiday in 21 years is now over. I went to visit my parents in Turkey with B-Man, my sister, her husband and their children. I wasn't quite sure what to expect to be honest, I had heard many things about turkey and many of them weren't all that great. What I experienced however was totally different! The people we met were fantastic and I saw a side to the Turkish way of life that I can sincerely appreciate.

I was a bit concerned that I would suffer badly in the heat as I have very fair skin that burns quickly even in the UK, I managed to slap on enough factor 50 sunblock to stave off the sun (until the last day when I was caught out by the fact it was cool and rainy - I still managed to get a little burned) It was hot and for the first few days I really felt it. I was just starting to acclimatise when it was time to leave!

I was also a little concerned that a whole week with my parents may be a bit too long for comfort but we got on relatively well with only a few minor squabbles that you'd expect from family. In short, I had a great time and I'll definitely go back again. I certainly have a new found appreciation of the country!

With the winter comes the snow...

..and the awful wellies!

This years snow has brought us the rare chance to see ordinary folks in wellies, and my do they have bad taste! Heres my top (or bottom!) Ten - OK well, Eight, whats a number between friends...

Patriotic Wellies
There really is no need, your feet are not flagpoles!
Checked or Tartan Wellies
You're not rupert the bear

Food related Wellies
Chocolates and licorice allsorts are for eating, not wearing

Football Fan Wellies
Ok, show support, but not this way surely?

Curtain Wellies
They remind me of curtains my Gran had when I was a child

Burberry Wellies
To match the burberry cap, gloves and scarf I suspect...

Impractical Wellies
Heeled Wellies. Whoever came up with this idea certainly needs shot.

Snowed In?

Its been a quiet month in Barbieland...until now... the surrounding area is under knee high snow. I love it, but when I go back to work tomorrow after a long weekend I think it might be a little difficult. I'll soldier in regardless as long as the buses don't get cancelled on me!

Heres what winter in Barbieland looks like...

During the day

Then during a flurry..

And after..
The tree blossomed! (with snow!)

Songs of Summer

With Beltane over, we're now officially in summer! I'm not a huge fan myself, I'm usually too hot, and everyone thinks I should be wearing pastels (soooo not going to happen!) On the way home tonight however I heard a car go past with its windows down and music blaring. Not unusual I hear you say... No, not really the only thing that made this noticeable was the choice of song, they were playing Place your Hands by Reef, an older song that was in the charts in 1996 (Ooh yeah I'm feeling old again!) which just made me feel all summery!

For anyone whose never heard it, here it is...

This kinda got me thinking of any other songs that have the same effect...So here are the best I could think of... Open your windows and turn up the speakers, you'll be wearing shorts in no time!

Wipe Out - Sufaris

Schools Out - Alice Cooper

Give It Away - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Snow causes problems

Theres currently lots and lots of snow everywhere across the UK. If you're here I'd think you might have noticed. Its caused a few problems, but for some of us life ticks along regardless. One of the great things snow does is cause people to try and keep warm by wearing more clothes, and best of all...HATS! (stupid ones) I've seen some corkers over the last few days and I'm always a little slow with the camera when I've got gloves on so I've found some great examples on the wonderful web...

At number 7...Make your child's head into some odd monsters arse...

At number 6, restrict your vision...

Number 5, pretend to be a jester
Number 4, Oversized bobbles make your head look look smaller...

Number 3, turn into a polar bear....

Number 2, pretend to have a far cooler haircut than you really do...

And finally at Number 1.......

Possibly the worst woolly hat you could possibly wear...BEARDHAT!!
