Cinematic problems make Barbie a grumpy girl

I used to be a big cinema-goer.  Recently however, I only go when there is a movie that I REALLY want to see on the big screen - this is partially due to the rising costs and partially due to the fact that many movies I'm not that fussed to see in the cinema, but to be really honest the main reason for my growing disdain towards the cinema is...other people.

Today was an epic example.  I've just come home from watching Avengers:Endgame, we went during the day on a weekday to avoid the cinema being mobbed, however, that still didn't stop the two people in the seats directly behind talking the entire way through the film.  I'm sure the movie is as wonderful as many people have thought but my experience of it was thoroughly ruined by these two.  I found myself getting increasingly annoyed to the point that I was pretty irate by the end of the film so I don't think I got the full effect of what should have been a fairly emotional ending to such a long run of movies.

I'm not going to pay to see it again, I'll wait for it to come out on DVD to watch (and hopefully enjoy it more!) in the peace and quiet of my own home instead.

2015. The year that killed my youth

OK, so its a bit of a dramatic title....but 2015 was a bit of a shitty year for the heroes and icons that dominated my childhood.

I'm a late seventies child, so I only really remember the early eighties onwards (there are some years in the late nineties/early 00's that are a bit hazy, but the memories are there somewhere!). So of course, I have early memories of watching "Jim'll fix it" and Rolf Harris....and well, their reputations are now far more questionable than they were back then.

Watching dodgy blokes on TV aside however, I really mean the rest of my youth, I love Hammer Horror (and pretty much all dodgy horror movies) so the death of Christopher Lee in May was a loss.  After the death of Robin Williams in 2014, I knew that movies would never be the same again but now I can be doubly certain.  This followed on from the death of Leonard Nimoy, in February and as a (not so closet) Trekkie, it was a sad day.

Musically it was a nasty year too, with B.B King, Scott Weiland and Lemmy all gone.

None of these however were as much of a loss as one of my true childhood (and adulthood) loves, Terry Pratchett.  I admit that when the news of his death broke I was in tears on my commute home.  In a selfish way I wasn't upset because he had died, he had been suffering from Altzheimers for a number of years so it was quite expected in some manner, but because there would be no more of his books to look forward to and because of the sudden outpouring of grief on social media from such a broad range of people.   For Christmas Mr B bought me Terry's last book.  I haven't read it yet.  Not because I'm not itching to, but because when I do I know I will turn the final page and will never have any more to come.

Well, we are in 2016 now and already more big icons have disappeared...Lets hope it stops there for a while or we will only be left with reality TV and Katie Price "novels" to keep us entertained.

The Obligatory Festive Posting...

Can you actually believe its January again already?  2012 went extremely quickly, I guess my lack of posts kinda proves that....*whistles*

I've actually had an excellent time this festive season though, a nice quiet time mostly spent relaxing around the house with Mr B...we both had a cold (I've still got mine unfortunately!) so didn't really get around to getting out very far but we are both a little reclusive so that suits us just fine!

We had a fair bit of excitement when it came to our gifts though....I got the best present I could ask for of a new computer. There was much jumping around and clapping when I opened it!  I've always had hand me down machines from other people and never actually a nice new one of my own (not since I was 10 and I got an Amstrad for Christmas! - you know the ones with the tape deck in the keyboard)   Everything is all nice looking and shiny on the interwebs now and I've been loving turning up the graphics on all my games at last! Anyway..enough of my gloating, I should just say I was very spoiled.

After a huge amount of food and a couple of family visits, suddenly new year was upon us.  Again the reclusive side of me would be quite happy to sit at home in the warm, but we had been invited round out for some drinks and movie watching instead...Apparently we all got bought slogan t shirts for Christmas too...

As an odd choice of "festive" movies we watch Nude Nuns with Big Guns (I know it sounds like an adult movie but it wasn't completely (Gurn argued this vehemently as it was his choice!)...I wouldn't however recommend anyone adding to to their must watch list!) and after the bells had gone and we had hung out the window watching fireworks we watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  B and Lorne had never seen it so have obviously been begging for the education :s...They both seemed quite amused and weren't too put off by the rest of us singing along and joining in with the audience participation so that's something!

Another new year is here now though...lets hope that 2013 is a year of peace, love and happiness...but doesn't fly by quite as fast as 2012 did!

My Favourite Theory

I've always followed the same theory as the guys behind this video....

However, Fun is now officially my new favourite theory. (beats relativity hands down!!) I wanna go up the stairs!

Maybe not the reaction you were looking for?

Apparently a new movie has made its audience thrown up and faint at the premier. The headlines make it sound a great deal worse that it was though, one man threw up and one woman fainted.
Not exactly the whole cinema then...?

The offending scene comes from Danny Boyles new film, 127 Hours, a true life disaster movie which shows the main character sawing his own arm off with a pocket knife. Gruesome, I suppose, but for years doom-sayers have been telling us that TV and movies will make us all hardened to gore and violence, obviously they were wrong!

So I'm not a freak then...?

I have an unusual mild phobia of mirrors. I don;t run screaming or anything, in fact sometimes they can be beautiful, BUT mostly they just make me feel very uncomfortable. Apparently it is considered an "official" phobia - it has a fancy name and everything! - known as Catoptrophobia. I also have a love of horror movies, one day I'll get that feeling back from my childhood of actually being scared by one! Often horrors do choose mirrors for a cheap scare though.. as wonderfully portrayed here...

Love them or hate them, you have to agree mirrors just aren't natural!!

More movies and minty wine

I actually managed to have an industrious day yesterday! I managed to dye my hair back to its normal colour rather than black with dodgy blonde roots, and style it so it looked how the hairdresser did it (Miracle! I've usually given up by now) Then I bottled a total of 14 bottles of my signature mint wine. Its been ready to bottle for months but due to the house move last year I didn't have any empties so I have been working very hard on making some - I have been using every excuse possible to drink copious amounts of wine! I finally realised that I should stop being lazy and get the stuff bottled else everyone who I have promised a bottle to would nag me.

Mint I know is a very unusual flavour for wine, but most people who try it adore it (Except Gurn who last night nearly spat a whole mouthful across his living room) It a tiring exercise as I only have a hand-corker which is probably akin to giving birth as you have to force a swollen cork through a much smaller hole into a bottle, It takes a fair amount of effort, one day I'll buy an automated one...or start using plastic corks.

Next up is Nettle, but I have to clean all my equipment out first again (which is why my wine takes so long to make, I hate the cleaning bit!) I'm not even sure if I will like it, but its worth a shot, If I hate it I will just give it to someone who doesn't!

By 7:30 last night I was knackered and realised that the single bowl of cornflakes I had eaten would not keep me alive forever. As I put some food in the oven, Gurn pings up at me to request my company, I gladly toddled over as it meant I wasn't sat in front of my PC buying things online.

I actually think that the movies are getting worse.... Last night we even turned one off at about halfway through. It should have indicated an early night, but we sat and chatted for the next x hours and I only managed to get home at half past 3. Its all my fault because I can talk for Britain once I'm started, and we got on to the subject of tattoos, which being a love for both of us is a disaster for getting any sleep... I might have finally settled on my latest additions though... maybe.

Sometimes I prefer...

OK... Another weekend of the flat to myself, DaBman is away boozin it up with "da boyz" so poor lil' me has been left to entertain myself again. No scissor worries this week as I had nearly all my hair chopped off on Thurday (well about 4 or 5 inches of it anyway!) so I know I not going on a trim fest - phew!

So, Gurn came to the rescue again to watch a movie and generally blether. After a while of chat he finally picked a classic movie from my collection... Company of Wolves...He wasn't most impressed but he will rip it to shreds himself, I'm sure. I still maintain its classic status!

One very large glass of wine later and a yum yum and I'm considering sleep... the washing up can survive until tomorrow!

Bad movies and a new PC

I got a "new" PC today, I've been given it because my flatmate got a new one and his old machine was still better than what I had before, so its new-to-me. I'm pretty chuffed, even though I will probably spend the next few weeks reinstalling stuff and finding out what I've lost!

I have the flat to myself again tonight, so instead of letting my boredom levels hit scissor areas again Gurn came on over to watch a couple of movies. I enjoy switching my brain off to watch the worst films I can lay my hands on, but tonights selection were truely the worst. I'm sure he will review them tomorrow!

Now i'm going to sit up the rest of the night playing with my new machine like the geek I secretly am...
