Living in a city that I didn't grow up in can be quite a challenge. Not just because I'm still not 100% on where each part of the town is in conjunction to the rest of it, but because as an adult, getting out and making friends is a very hard thing to do. **important note** I'm not making any false claims - my local geography knowledge does lie somewhere between medium-bad and utterly useless!
Firstly, please dont get me wrong here on the friends issue. I have some wonderful friends, many I have known for decades, (which when I think about exactly how long is a little scary and makes me feel old!) but the vast majority live a great distance away from where I am now. I moved to Edinburgh in 2005, and contrary to my actual "normal" nature, I can be a bit of a wallflower in person, social situations often get me exteremly nervous and I become introverted which I'm told can come across as aloof and snobby. This doesn't help.
I've now lived here 6 years and its taken me a while to even start to build up a circle of friends. I do feel like I'm getting there but its taken patience, a bit of alcohol(quite a lot on a few occasions!), and a few pep talks from the ever trusty B-Man!
So, my advice for anyone who has those desolate, stranded feelings? Get up and do something about it! Strangers are not going to come knocking on your door seeking out friendship, and striking up the odd conversation about the weather on your daily commute probably isn't going to bud into a lifelong friendship. Join clubs, meet friends of friends you already have, go to work social events. It may sound cheesy and cliche but it actually does work. I have proof. Right here :)

Some of those odd thoughts
A friend of mine got married at the weekend. I couldn't go, but have had reports from other friends who could. The first thing anyone commented on was that he song the bride walked down the aisle to was the imperial march (not the original star wars version but the family guy elevator music instead) For those who haven't heard it here is it...
This got me thinking though, if I were to marry then what would I have to walk down the aisle to myself? I think the traditional wedding march isn't quite my style to be honest so I'd have to come up with an alternative. Oddly although its something I've never truly thought about before, what I actually would want.... So far my favourites have to be...
The haunting classical choice
The cliche goth bash
although this would have to be a close second..just to get the audience clicking along!
for the late bride...
or finally the romantic option..

Twins!
Watching Family Guy tonight they did a "joke" (It wasn't funny) about a chap called Conway Twitty.
What I found more amusing was the striking similarity this chap bears to Paul Merton..

Nostalgia strikes
I had a very short conversation with B-Man today about Dick Dastardly and Muttley trying to catch the pigeon...it was very short because he has no recollection of the cartoon and thought I was losing the few marbles that I have!
So to prove that I'm not completely insane and just watched some very dodgy TV when I was young here is Dick Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines...

Firewalk with me...
No, this post is not about the twin peaks movie. Next Friday I will be walking over 15 feet of hot coals to raise money for char-ity (*cough* excuse the pun) I'm very excited, and as the day draws closer I'm also getting rather nervous!
Walking on hot coals is a massive challenge, and one that many people would shy away from (based on the reaction most people have given of asking if I'm completely insane) but I think my mind/body can hold up to it....If not this is going to hurt! I'll be getting as many photos and videos as possible as evidence of my trial, maybe more to prove to myself that I did it than for anyone else as I'm pretty sure it will all feel like a bit of a dream afterwards.
Wish me luck folks! (or if it goes wrong, send bandages!)

Barbie shows her true colours
I get bored easily. I can't help it, its always happened (apparently recent studies have shown that this is due to a part of my brain being too big, I NEVER thought that would be my excuse for anything!) anyway due to my short attention span and low boredom threshold I have a tendancy to change things regularly...like my hair. Which as of last Saturday became very, very purple...
