And the winners are..

My work don't really socialise. Its understandable, we spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week together and I don't think most of us actually like each other that much...But they're not really a bad crowd - Honest. ;) So, when a charity quiz night was organised it was quite a surprise that some of us were willing to go. Five of us from my team initially got tickets, one had to pull out on the day, but that's still not a bad turnout really. Teams of 6 were permitted, so with DaBMan seeing his sister off at the airport, I called upon the "universal knowledge" that is Gurn to maximise our chances of actually getting a question right (although when asked what his specialist subject might be by my work colleagues the best I could come up with was "Comics?").

Little did I know what I was letting myself in for... I now know things about this man I would have never even thought of...These include: -

1. That he is a secret Cliff Richard fan
2. That he knows a little too much about cross stitch that a man really should
3. Just because he has visited a place on holiday doesn't actually mean he knows where it is

Overall we did pretty well, coming second out of about 9 teams (only about 3 points behind the winning team) This will be a point rubbed in at work tomorrow, believe me!

Best answer of the night came from our team too, on the very first question...

Q. Where would you be if you were at Ronaldsway Airport?
A. In a plane

Geography... not a strong point...

With the accent over the E....

It doesn't happen often, in fact its only been since I moved to my current location and job that its happened at all...People keep mistaking me for having an Australian accent. I have what I consider to be a fairly middle English stereotypical accent with a hint of London, usually most people do have problems pinpointing the region I come from, but that fair, they get that I'm English if nothing else. For some reason however several people now have phoned my work and asked "to speak to the Australian lady" (We don't have any) but then have given my name. Oh this is of course except for Gurn who thinks I sound South African! - He just doesn't have very good hearing methinks!

Maybe I have that brain disorder that makes you start speaking in different languages when you didn't know how to before... If so can I place my order for fluent Japanese now please?

More movies and minty wine

I actually managed to have an industrious day yesterday! I managed to dye my hair back to its normal colour rather than black with dodgy blonde roots, and style it so it looked how the hairdresser did it (Miracle! I've usually given up by now) Then I bottled a total of 14 bottles of my signature mint wine. Its been ready to bottle for months but due to the house move last year I didn't have any empties so I have been working very hard on making some - I have been using every excuse possible to drink copious amounts of wine! I finally realised that I should stop being lazy and get the stuff bottled else everyone who I have promised a bottle to would nag me.

Mint I know is a very unusual flavour for wine, but most people who try it adore it (Except Gurn who last night nearly spat a whole mouthful across his living room) It a tiring exercise as I only have a hand-corker which is probably akin to giving birth as you have to force a swollen cork through a much smaller hole into a bottle, It takes a fair amount of effort, one day I'll buy an automated one...or start using plastic corks.

Next up is Nettle, but I have to clean all my equipment out first again (which is why my wine takes so long to make, I hate the cleaning bit!) I'm not even sure if I will like it, but its worth a shot, If I hate it I will just give it to someone who doesn't!

By 7:30 last night I was knackered and realised that the single bowl of cornflakes I had eaten would not keep me alive forever. As I put some food in the oven, Gurn pings up at me to request my company, I gladly toddled over as it meant I wasn't sat in front of my PC buying things online.

I actually think that the movies are getting worse.... Last night we even turned one off at about halfway through. It should have indicated an early night, but we sat and chatted for the next x hours and I only managed to get home at half past 3. Its all my fault because I can talk for Britain once I'm started, and we got on to the subject of tattoos, which being a love for both of us is a disaster for getting any sleep... I might have finally settled on my latest additions though... maybe.

Sometimes I prefer...

OK... Another weekend of the flat to myself, DaBman is away boozin it up with "da boyz" so poor lil' me has been left to entertain myself again. No scissor worries this week as I had nearly all my hair chopped off on Thurday (well about 4 or 5 inches of it anyway!) so I know I not going on a trim fest - phew!

So, Gurn came to the rescue again to watch a movie and generally blether. After a while of chat he finally picked a classic movie from my collection... Company of Wolves...He wasn't most impressed but he will rip it to shreds himself, I'm sure. I still maintain its classic status!

One very large glass of wine later and a yum yum and I'm considering sleep... the washing up can survive until tomorrow!

The hard part...

A few weeks back when I was pondering whether or not I was going to start this I was talking to Gurn about it. His only comment was that I should if I had something to say. (helpful huh? ;) ) Today quite randomly I remembered being given a diary as a kid and not knowing what to fill it with I wrote in almost every day "got up, went to school, had tea, nothing else happened"

I promise if I do that here I will cut off a body part each time!

Anyhooo, With me and Dabman sharing a flat we have both inherited more pets, He has to put up with my two hoity cats and I have his rats to play with - I think I probably get the best deal out if this one! We had the rats out to play on the sofa last night and one of them actually posed for a photo! (total miracle! most photos of the rats turn out as large white blurs on the screen)

Cutie huh?

Barbie suffers a wardrobe malfunction

My office hates bras!! It must do, it seems that every time I step into the place something bad happens in an attempt to free my "boys". One day it might work and I'll end up flashing some poor unsuspecting colleague...In the last six months I have had three mishaps of this sort and its never ever happened before, serves me right for running for the bus this morning I guess!

Book reporting

Gurn tags everybody, so here's my case on random book reporting. The rules: -

1. Grab the nearest book (that is at least 123 pages long).
2. Open to page 123.
3. Go to the 5th sentence.
4. Type in the following 3 sentences.
5. Tag five people.

My closest book is The Wayward Mind by Guy Claxton, unfortunatley he has a thing for long sentences so...

"For Aristotle, more the cool observer than the riteous moralist or amateur dietitian, dreams reflected residual reverberations of the day's sense impressions, sometimes clear, when the mind is very clam and these faint traces are able to be seen, and sometimes distorted by other aspects of temperament of emotion - melancholy, fever, intoxication - so that 'the visions appear confused and monstrous', like images broken on the surface of ruffled water. If dreams appear prophetic, Aristotle councels suspicion of any supernatural interpretation. His rational mind sees two alternative possibilities."

I dont know 5 people so anyone who sees this can consider themselves tagged.

Bad movies and a new PC

I got a "new" PC today, I've been given it because my flatmate got a new one and his old machine was still better than what I had before, so its new-to-me. I'm pretty chuffed, even though I will probably spend the next few weeks reinstalling stuff and finding out what I've lost!

I have the flat to myself again tonight, so instead of letting my boredom levels hit scissor areas again Gurn came on over to watch a couple of movies. "Girlie" Night

Ok, I am not a "Girlie" Girl, I'm generally a bit of a Ladette in fact. Tonight however I'm on my own with no agenda and nothing to keep me entertained... These nights often end in turmoil when boredom kicks in and I take scissors to my hair (much to the complete horror of my hairdresser even though I only visit once a year) In order to stave off the want to cut my locks I'm going to do all the horrid girlie things I only do occassionally. My list of "chores" for the night are:

Wash my hair
Use a face mask
Choose random colours to paint my nails
Paint fingernails
Epilate entire body

For anyone who hasn't encountered an epilator, its a machine which acts like many many pairs of tweezers and rips hairs our of any body part you apply it to. Its fairly painful (Thankfully I have a majorly high pain threshold) but works wonders. If you want to see just how scary this contraption is...heres a video -

And women (probably some men too) put themselves through this??!

...One

Ok, I have been "promising" myself a blog for years but never actually had the time/boredom level to get my ass round to actually bothering with it. I'm probably not going to tell anyone this exists for a little while anyway either, in case I get bored with it and stop.

Anyway, Thats the hardest part over with eh?
